Pharmacology
This preparation is a mixture of expectorant, decongestant and antihistamine. Guaifenesin is an expectorant. It helps to loosen mucus in chest and throat caused by common cold, infections, or allergies. Levomenthol helps to breathe more easily by relieving congestion. Diphenhydramine is an antihistamine that reduces the effects of natural chemical histamine in the body. It is used to treat sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, hives, skin rash, itching & other cold or allergy symptoms.
Dosage & Administration
12 years and above: 10 ml 4 times a day.
Contraindications
This combination is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to Guaifenesin, Levomenthol or Diphenhydramine. If Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs) have been taken in the last two weeks this combination should not be taken. This combination is not suitable for children under 12 years of age.
Side Effects
Side effects may include swelling of the face, lips and/or tongue, allergic reactions, numbness, drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, dry mouth/nose/throat, nausea or vomiting etc
Pregnancy & Lactation
There are no specific data on use of this combination during pregnancy & lactation.
Precautions & Warnings
Patients suffering from liver, kidney & prostate problems should avoid this combination. Alcohol must be avoided. If any other medicines like minor Tranquilisers, Barbiturates, Codeine are taken, caution should be exercised. Patients taking this combination need to be careful while driving or operating machinery.
Storage Conditions
Protect from light, store in a cool and dry place. Keep out of the reach of children.
